Can say nothing but good about my Zoom H4n recorder. We use it both mounted on a tripod and using the screw-in mic mount as a handle to cut down on noise when hand-holding. The end of July 2010 Zoom has also released the H1 which looks to be a great recorder with stereo capabilities for users on a more limited budget (note the H4n can do 4 channels if utilizing external mic's connected to the XLR/Phone connectors with Phantom Power on the bottom). Not sure if the H1 supports slow-down and speed-up of audio on the device or not, but for the cost if looking for a good prosumer stereo digital recorder for EVP work, check it out.
